Reflect on 3 Simple Questions

Self-sabotage is when we consciously or sub-consciously take steps to prevent ourselves from achieving our goals. This negative behavior, fueled by negative beliefs and negative self-talk, can have serious consequences that affect our intimate relationships, friendships, finances, personal goals, and professional goals. Self-sabotage is quite common and can have a significant impact on our ability to experience joyful, happy living.

Self-sabotage may show up in a variety of ways, including fear, self-doubt, procrastination, and excuse making.
There are many reasons why people self-sabotage; however, this behavior is commonly associated with low self-esteem, low self-worth, and lack of confidence.
Do you find yourself setting goals that you really want to achieve, but then making excuses for why you can’t achieve them?

If you answered yes, then consider taking time to reflect on these three simple questions to uncover what’s really holding you back:

1. Do I really want to achieve this goal?

The fact is when you really want to do something, you’ll find a way to do it. You may feel nervous or afraid, but you will find the strength and courage to do what you need to do. Take a moment to reevaluate your goal and decide if it’s really an important priority for you right now.

2. What am I afraid of?

Think about where your fear is coming from and why you’ve created this false story in your mind that your goal is not achievable. Once you figure out where that fear is coming from, you will be able to acknowledge it, accept it, and then face it. You’ll come to realize that you are writing your own story and making up the excuses. When you are putting up the wall of fear, you also have the incredible power to knock it down.

3. How can I knock down the wall of fear and rewrite my story?

Think back over your life and reflect on all the obstacles and challenges you’ve already endured. Tap into that strength, courage, and resilience that you’ve relied on many times before to help you knock down the wall of fear. You can change the conversation that you’re having with yourself. You know that you can achieve anything you choose to focus on because you did it before and you can do it again.
